Excalidraw 2.24.0-beta-1 is available for testing

As discussed in my earlier post, I am splitting Excalidraw into two plugins:

The first beta implementing this change is now available: 2.24.0-beta-1.

I’d greatly appreciate your help testing the full user experience. In particular:

  1. Uninstall Excalidraw Extras if you already have it installed.
  2. Try one of the outsourced features:
    • LaTeX (MathJax)
    • Mermaid
    • PDF printing
    • Direct file system access
  3. Verify that the installation prompt appears at the right time and that the installation flow feels smooth and intuitive.
  4. After installation, experiment with different combinations of:
    • Enabling/disabling Excalidraw Extras
    • Enabling/disabling outsourced features
    • Restarting Obsidian

My main concern is not whether the features work (though that’s important too), but whether the overall experience is clear, predictable, and intuitive for users who encounter this for the first time.

Please share any rough edges, confusing moments, or suggestions for improvement.

just tried it out: updated Excalidraw, tried to insert a LaTeX formula. The option appears in the “image” menu as before. When clicking it, a new window appears informing about the necessity of installing Excalidraw Extras. When trying to do so, the correct Community Plugin page opens. The explanation for the existence of the plugin given there is easily understandable. Installation runs without issues and afterwards I can insert the formula the same way as before. Integration with the LaTeX Suite also works as expected.

Tried it out in my sandbox vault that does not contain too many packages. However, at least Minimal Theme doesn’t seem to create issues :wink:

2.24.0-beta-4 - release candidate

Includes many, many code scanner fixes, and some issue-log bug fixes, such as blurry arrows in PNG exports, when the arrow has a text label, issues with keyboard shortcuts interfering with the insert any file modal, and a change to keep runtime custom pen settings per custom pen index instead of sharing one active pen object. Switching between custom pens restores each pen’s last adjusted stroke width, colors, fill style, and roughness.
